Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier
The Onkyo M-80 is a reference-grade stereo power amplifier engineered for audiophiles who demand the ultimate in power, control, and sonic purity. Delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms (both channels driven, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.05% THD), it is built around Onkyo's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) with a massive high-current toroidal transformer, fully balanced circuitry, and a dual-mono construction that ensures complete channel separation. Pair it with the Onkyo P-80 Preamplifier for a complete reference-level stereo system.
Key Features
- 200 W × 2 channels (8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.05% THD) — reference-grade stereo power
- Dual-mono construction with independent power supplies per channel for complete channel separation
- Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs for maximum flexibility and noise rejection
- WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) with high-current toroidal transformer for low-distortion, wide-bandwidth amplification
- Three-stage Darlington output stage with 10 output transistors per channel for high-current drive capability
- Instrumentation amplifier for superior common-mode noise rejection on balanced inputs
- Speaker A/B switching for two pairs of loudspeakers
- 12 V trigger input for system integration and auto power-on
- Heavy-duty binding post speaker terminals accepting bare wire, spades, or banana plugs
- Soft-clipping circuit to protect speakers during high-level transients
Reference-Grade Engineering
The M-80's dual-mono architecture places a dedicated toroidal transformer, rectifier, and filter capacitor bank for each channel, eliminating crosstalk at the power supply level. The three-stage Darlington output stage with 10 transistors per channel delivers enormous current reserves, allowing the M-80 to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers with ease and composure. Fully balanced signal paths from XLR input to output stage ensure the lowest possible noise floor.
System Integration
The M-80 is designed to work seamlessly within a high-end separates system. A 12 V trigger input allows automatic power-on when paired with a compatible preamplifier such as the Onkyo P-80. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs accommodate any source, and heavy-duty speaker binding posts accept bare wire, spades, or banana plugs.

Caring for your Speakers and Amplifiers
To Keep your equipment safe these are some best practices to note. Please be advised that this is only to reduce the risk of misuse and is not an exhaustive list.
Speakers
- Speaker terminals are marked red and black, ensure your amplifier to the speakers are wired on the same colours
- Ensure no loose speaker wire from the red touches a loose wire from the black as this will lead to a short circuit and damage either the speaker, the amplifier or both.
- Not all speakers are designed to play at max volume, kindly consider the pairing of your amplifier and speakers
- Speaker cabinets cannot be replaced please handle with care.
AV & Stereo Amplifiers
- If your amplifier has HDMI ports, ensure all devices are off before plugging in the HDMI cable
- Turn off the amplifier before swoping out or adding speaker cable
- Amplifiers generate heat, place them in a well ventilated space. if possible avoid having anything on top of the unit.
- adding a surge protector can assist with power dips which are likely to damage your devices. Isotek and Furman are industry standard.
- Dusty environments can sometimes lead to accumulation of dust in the electronic components that might affect heat regulation
